After a motor vehicle accident, you’ll need to find a great collision repair shop. The collision repair process is a process that can sometimes be confusing, particularly if you’ve never been in a car accident before. Here are the 10 steps involved in the collision repair process at CAMS Automotive.

1. Repair Estimation

First, we’ll assess the damage to your vehicle and provide an estimate of the total cost of repairs. Typically, you’ll provide this estimate to your insurance company or an attorney if filing an accident lawsuit.

2. Disassembly and Documentation

Your insurance carrier, attorney, or the other driver’s insurance can request disassembly of your vehicle to ensure all damage to external and internal parts is correctly documented. Then, the responsible party will need to provide authorization to repair the vehicle as suggested.

3. Order Necessary Parts

Once authorized, the necessary replacement parts can be ordered.

4. Perform Body and Mechanical Work

At this stage, once the parts for your vehicle have been received, our body shop mechanics can begin to work on repairs. An electronic measuring system is used to ensure that all body and mechanical repairs are restored to the original factory specifications.

5. Paint Prep and Painting

Once all body and mechanical work are done, the vehicle is prepped for painting. All panels are prepared and then primed and sealed. This must be done correctly to ensure the paint adheres properly and without defects. Then, the vehicle is repainted.

6. Reassembly

Once the paint is cured, your vehicle is reassembled back to its pre-accident condition. All parts are restored and at this time, your car should look close to — if not exactly like — what it did prior to the accident.

7. Quality Control

CAMS Automotive’s I-CAR Certified mechanics will perform a complete quality control check of your vehicle. We take the extra step to make sure your vehicle not only looks great but also drives well.

8. Detail

We also fully clean each vehicle to get it ready for the customer. The goal of the clean is to remove any trace that the vehicle was in a repair shop.

9. Delivery

When your auto repair is completed, you can pick up your vehicle at our facility and we will review the repair with you to make sure you are satisfied.
